Aramis was born on August 10, 2009, by Glenaffric Ulanyo of Zuritamu ex Rekaylahn Amber, so was a litter brother to IM Cresta by U who stayed with us here at IMK.
Aramis lived at Åkersberga, outside Stockholm, with his owners, Tomas and Catharina Rydin, and spent most of his time with Tomas and his best buddy Caesar, Inanda Melbberg Sepedi, often at Tomas’ job. He had a First in Open Field Tracking, which means he was gun-shot proof, and he was shown with some excellent results. He also completed the MH temperament evaluation, that too with a very satisfying result, and he loved coursing.
Aramis sired one litter at Kennel Wayosi in Norway, as well as two at IMK.
Although there have been numerous male dogs at IMK over the years, the last time that I actually went out and acquired one was in the last century. That was Churchill (Orangelad). Since then I bought back both Winston and Otto from puppy buyers who couldn’t quite cope with them, and when Otto died, in May 2020, I really missed having a boy around.
So when my R litter arrived, on March 24th 2021, I decided to keep Ranston. He’s by Inanda Mellberg Athol-Aramis by U ex Inanda Mellberg Nimla by Bolt, and it’s very first time ever I put an Inanda Mellberg dog to an Inanda Mellberg bitch. And extra special as Nimla has my very first registered RR (Praidas Salut) in her pedigree, albeit 7 generations back.
Ranston is a “high-energy” individual with a very good nose, but he is a very late developer (even for a Rhodesian Ridgeback), and as I write this (in 2023) he’s still lacking the focus and concentration necessary for a really good working dog.
Otto was born on September 21st 2010, and was very carefully tested by his former owner, Jörgen Olsen, a Danish Schweisshound-handler, before moving to Denmark in late 2010. However, he did not quite come up to expectation quickly enough, so Jörgen decided to go back to labradors. He offered to return Otto to me, and I was only too pleased to get him back, and to have an IM Edelrood x Rekaylahn Amber offspring in the house.
Otto was then one of the two dogs I took with me when I moved back to South Africa in 2014.
All in all he produced two excellent litters; one with kennel Hunting Pride in Norway, and one with kennel Amberhall.
He died in a freak accident on May 17th 2020.
There is enough frozen semen for three more litters from him, but it has all been spoken for.
